Judges 6 & 7: What God Sees

Judges 6:34a “But the Spirit of the Lord clothed Gideon with Himself and took possession of him,…”

Gideon has been portrayed by himself as insignificant, and by implication, powerless. Yet, God sees, a “mighty man of [fearless] courage.” (Judges 6:12) God knows that when He empowers a person for battle, they will be courageous! They will be victorious!

Making Gideon’s story personal, I remember when a frightened little girl faced a mountain of adversity, an emotional battle with seemingly epic proportions, and a situation which isolated her from the support of man.

God took that little girl and not only clothed her with His Spirit but filled her with His Spirit, and that frightened little girl was transformed. It didn’t occur in a moment. It took years of filling and refilling and the process is still, in process, but no longer is that little girl frightened of adversity as she once had been. She has risen above, knowing that her peace and strength are authored by the Lord alone.

The only assignment remaining is to worship and obey. If the Lord leads her into battle, she knows by experience that He goes before her, and His glory is her rearguard. She comprehends the importance of hearing His voice and responding to His heart. Placing her soul at the feet of Jesus, she knows that He is all she needs for this life on earth and for the eternity to come.

I am that little girl.

Gideon, the little girl, and you are all vessels for His fearless courage! Stand firm in the battle that rages, climb that mountain with holy tenacity, be victorious, we have His Spirit making us into what God sees…a mighty warrior!!!
