1 Samuel 15-17: No Saul Traps!

22Samuel said, Has the Lord as great a delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

Yea, Samuel!!! It’s a moment by moment, personal decision to obey, and that is spiritual worship!!! Externals should only be the result of that personal, spiritual worship.

“And Saul said to Samuel, I have sinned; for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice.”

Worrying what others think…ouch! Saul disobeyed God because he feared (worried about) what the people said!

How many times have I modified what God has told me to do because I thought it might offend the religious? Lord, have mercy on me and cause me not to fall into the “Saul Trap.” I want to be like David who runs after Your Own heart, not caring what the religious onlookers think!

I will be one of those worshipers whose heart is like David, impacting the secular masses. These people are looking for something real, a real heart to heart relationship with God, not a dead tradition. They crave true love, not the fake, saccharine substitute of love.

I am less like Saul today then in the past, but still there is farther to go. Jesus reminds me of how far I have come and runs along side of me towards the finish line of faith. He’s the best Coach!!!
