Genesis 1, 2, and 3: Sanctification Visualized Through Creation

Two verses jumped out at me as I read.

Genesis 1:3 & 4

"And God saw that the light was good (suitable, pleasant) and He approved it; and God separated the light from the darkness.  And God said, Let there be light; and there was light."

These verses remind me of the continuing work of Holy Spirit in us, identifying the darkness that attempts to creep into our vessels and separating it from the light, which is Jesus. This beautiful picture embedded in the act of creation embodies the sanctification of us all, our process towards holiness.

Genesis 2:17
“But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and blessing and calamity you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

This is a verse which has stumped me for years. If Adam and Eve did not have the knowledge to determine good vs. evil prior to eating from the tree, then how did Eve know it was evil to disobey God’s command not to eat of it?

The whole creative process of God seems to be symbolic of our personal creation. Causing the dry land to appear from within the water could be symbolic of baptism, the planting of the seeds of the field could be symbolic of the seeds of faith in us, the fruitful nature of the animals that God placed on the earth could point out our own propensity to be fruitful in the gospel and multiple the knowledge of God. This is beautiful. Thanks.

Thanks for your comment, Tyler. Ever since I've been a young girl, I have appreciated symbolism.

One of the benefits of shared study is to hear what God is saying to others. Thanks for sharing!
