Journey Through the Psalms Day 24

Read Psalms 24, 54, 84, 114, 144.

I have never been able to identify with the Psalm writers' attitudes towards their enemies in light of Jesus teachings on how we are to treat those who hurt and use us; we must remember to bless and not curse. (Luke 6:28) We must remember that our enemies are not flesh and blood, but they are principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this world, and spiritual wickedness in high places. (Ephesians 6:12) I think it humbles us to remember we all have fallen at some point to the influence of the "dark side." Lord, empower me to treat others the way I desire to be treated! (Luke 6:31)

I have passed through the Valley of Baca (Weeping) and Holy Spirit has made it a place filled with blessings! Psalm 84:6 I will be singing Your praises all the day long!!! Psalms 84:4b

Thank you, Beautiful Grace, for keeping us on track with the Psalms readings. I've been reading, but haven't had time to post in the last two weeks.

Also, I see your point in reference to the writers' attitudes towards their enemies. Part of me feels the same way you feel about treating others the way we want to be treated (because God commands us to do so). Another part of me totally understands it. I mean, even Christians today, we pray against forces and strongholds that are against God's will in our lives. Could these writers have been doing just that (although, they lived in a totally different time than we live in now, so it might not look the same)?? Just a thought! (I can't wait to study the Psalms in seminary. lol)

But you are correct, we should be treating, even our enemies, with the grace, love and respect that Christ gave us. Thanks for including those scriptures, too.
