Proverbs 30 & 31: The Proverbs 31 Woman Fantasy

Proverbs 31

Years ago, I allowed this list of traits characterizing the perfect, godly woman/wife in Proverbs 31 bring me into a sort of bondage.

The Proverbs 31 Woman as written seems perfect in every regard.  When measuring myself against her, I found only lack and imperfection.  My family is not clothed in scarlet, and I have certainly never produced coverlets, cushions, and rugs of tapestry!

I was understanding the passage literally, but rarely does the Bible speak only in literal terms.  Understanding the Proverbs 31 Woman spiritually brought freedom!  A godly woman doesn't need to sew in order to be a Proverbs 31 Woman.

With the help of Holy Spirit, I aspire to be like this woman, realizing that perfection itself in this life is unattainable.  However, excellence is my goal, not only as a wife, mother and woman, but as the beloved of Jesus.

Proverbs 31:18
Amplified Bible (AMP)

She tastes and sees that her gain from work [with and for God] is good; her lamp goes not out, but it burns on continually through the night [of trouble, privation, or sorrow, warning away fear, doubt, and distrust].

My lamp (devotion to Him) will never go out because its fuel is His Spirit!  When difficult seasons present themselves, I will turn to my Perfect God, Who releases His power through my imperfections and weaknesses.

I am a Proverbs 31 Woman in process...from glory to glory, I am changed!

2 Corinthians 3:18

And all of us, as with unveiled face, [because we] continued to behold [in the Word of God] as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are constantly being transfigured into His very own image in ever increasing splendor andfrom one degree of glory to another; [for this comes]from the Lord [Who is] the Spirit.
